   We don’t use any flame treatments, chemical treatments, or anything with that is going to cause high temperatures on the edge and bring the moisture out of the plastic. With those kinds of treatments what you’ll find over time is with UV rays and vibration you’ll get crazing at the top edge. So everything is hand polished using custom polishing wheels that we have designed here. That helps us control the temperature and keep it as low as possible, but still create a fine polish on the edge.

   Hey guys, I’m Ryan, and this is this Craig with Clearview Shields and today we’re talking about the Harley-Davidson Road Glide windshield. Some of the keys things that I’d like to point out about the design of this new Road Glide shield is the Recurves that we put into it. We don’t get crazy with the amount Recurve. We put just enough to get that airflow deflected up and around the rider without creating a lot of distortion and turbulent air coming off the sides.

   On this one, we actually done a recurve on the sides of the windshield as well and that helps to pick the pocket up a little bit more around not just the rider but the passenger. One of the benefits you’ll find with this is that obviously it’s going to be quieter. You’re going to be able to hear music with less volume which is nice. One other important thing I want to bring up on our recurve design is that it enhances structural integrity of the shield, and what I mean by that is at highway speeds you’re going to find that the windshield is going to vibrate less because of the compound shape that is incorporated into the design.

   Also, any area below the Recurve you might get reflection, you’re not gonna get that same reflection up in the area above the Recurve. So that annoying reflection that would encompass the whole shield is contained below where that Recurve is. Alright guys, let’s talk about the material that we’re using. We are using a material that provides the best optical clarity in the industry. This is a high impact plastic that is engineered to have the best optical clarity and scratch resistance without the need of a hard coating. The combination of these traits will provide a safer riding environment for you and/or your passenger. I want to spend a little bit of time talking about our edges. We hand polish all our edges right here at the shop.

Alright, tint options, we got quite a few options.

We have smoke, this is gonna be a bronze so more of a brownish hue to it.

We have light grey, and again this is going to be a little bit lighter than that smoked tint with more of a light grey tint or hue.

Dark grey, this is going to be our darkest tint option we have available for this windshield. Not available for the XL or the XXL height. We have our standard just clear option.

Then, our newest member to the tint family is going to be our medium grey which is just a little be light than our dark.

Road Glide Windshield Custom GT Sculpted Cut | Clearview Shields | The Finest Motorcycle Windshields

   Alright, going along with some of the options that we have available here for the Road Glide. I’ll be talking about the width of the GT and the sculpted cut. There are two options for your cut style. We have the sculpted cut which is the shield in the front here and we have the GT. The GT is kinda our long distance shield. So if you do a lot of long distance riding, especially 2 UP and with a passenger, this is going to be the ideal shield to provide the optimal coverage for you and the passenger. Then we have our sculpted design which was designed to keep in mind a couple things. One would be after market bars, so if you have risers on your bars, or you think you’re going to have any clearance issues hitting the windshield then the sculpted cut is gonna be the way to go and it is going to be wider then the Road Glide Ultra screen. It will still maintain a sporty look as well with the sculpted cut, again these GT and these sculpted cuts come with all of the sizes that we offer.

  Alright, let’s talk about heights. Clearview Shields has been known for having a lot of different heights to accommodate a multitude of different riders and bike setups. Again, we talk about it on the blogs, we talk about setting up your seat, setting up your handle bars. We want to get all these things done before doing a windshield because they’re all gonna effect how that windshield is going to sit relative to the way you are sitting on the bike. A few things on how we measure. A lot companies measure just top to bottom on the shield. We actually measure off the infotainment center ledge here straight up, because the windshield that we designed is a different contour and shape than what the stock windshield is. That’s why we want to measure vertically because it’s really a matter of how you sit on the bike and how you look out to the road is really the relationship that we’re trying to achieve here.

A couple other things too, we’ve got some new sizes that we’ve debuted on the website. A lot of people ask for something taller. We have our XL, which sat based on that measurement 15.5 inches, now we have our XXL that sits 17.5 inches, a good two inch vertical increase. Very good for people that want to look through their windshields and spend a lot of time on their bike. It’s a good full coverage windshield. We also went the opposite direction and we’ve got a sportier model, that one sits about 10 inches so it’s the shortest one we do and again both these were generated by customer requests, so we build windshields based on what our customers want.

  Alright I’m gonna tell you about the vent. Obviously anybody who owns a Road Glide knows that it’s heavily vented, that’s one of the things about the Rushmore Project is that they are understanding of the concept of getting air circulating inside the pocket to help balance that pressure and reduce the effects of the wind collapsing around you. We do the vent on a lot of our windshields to help with that. I really wasn’t considering doing the vent on this model, but I through in just for our demos and when I took my wife out for a test drive I couldn’t feel any difference, but the minute I closed the vent, I got a hit on the back of the head by my passenger saying, “Hey what did you do?” So obviously there is a benefit for the passenger, it’s gonna help the operator of the bike, but again, we offer the vent mostly for those people riding 2 UP trying to make the pocket, and the ride, and the trip, as comfortable as possible for the passenger.
