Ray L’s 2015 Road Glide Rider Profile

Ray - Clearview Shields

A rider profile is the individual test rider end stage of our design process. To start the creation of a new Motorcycle Windshield we first sign up a local rider to work with. They help us create a good working prototype. Then we take that design and submit it to a larger group of riders with varying needs and riding styles. This approach gives us a dynamic that impacts the development of the design from many angles and allows input from all who are involved.

The test group helps to mold the shape of the new screen in a direction that works well for all 2015 – Present Harley Davidson Road Glide owners while identifying individual needs. The rider profile helps to give you, the customer, an idea of what Screen height and design style will work best for you. You can just match your body height, Pant Inseam, and bike modifications to rider with the exact, or at least close, list of physical and mechanical attributes.

Ray was looking for something 2 to 3 inches taller than his stock CVO 2015 Road Glide Screen.

“The Yakima valley is a semi-arid desert environment but it’s fully supported by irrigation for a massive amounts of fruit trees. My biggest problem here is flying bugs especially, heavy nasty ones like bumble bees. Take one of them babies in the face at 75 mph and you won’t forget it for a while. Hearing one buzzing inside your helmet at 75 is a noise one never wants to hear and will cause immediate panic.”

He rides solo 100% of the time. Ray started with our 2015 Road Glide Large Height (14”) in light gray with the GT side cut for the best coverage possible. He went with Light Gray 2015 Road Glide Windscreen for long trips and mentioned adding a second screen in dark gray for around town daytime riding. Our first design debuted a larger blacked out area along the bottom portion of the windshield in hopes to reduce Glare when riding, which was a request from our initial prototype rider. Ray liked the coverage the screen provided and gave us one of the most detailed reports of his findings, which you can read by clicking the link below.

The rider questionnaire below was sent to the rider after the first 2015 Road Glide Windshield they test drove.

Read his final review below:
As I mentioned in my original evaluation the stock HD windshield on the 2015 CVO Road Glide did not provide protection from the large flying bugs found here in Eastern Washington. It also was quite noisy, especially when riding at freeway speeds. I am extremely happy to tell you that since day 1, after installing the Clearview prototype and the final design shields, I have not taken any nasty bugs to the face. That is a very good thing for me because at over 70 miles per hour taking a grasshopper or honeybee to the face can really ruin your day and I think we all understand that hearing a wounded honeybee buzzing inside your helmet at 70 MPH is what nightmares are made of.
In conclusion:

  • The reduced height of the glare preventative coating and smoothed upper corners make this a very good-looking shield.
  • The shield was very easy to install taking approximately 15 minutes for one person only.
  • Very nice air pocket with no buffeting, even when approaching excessive speeds (100 + mph).
  • The calmer air behind the Clearview windshield greatly reduced the wind noise in my helmet and ringing in my ears after the ride.
  • The shield reduced fatigue in my neck and shoulders and made the bike a lot more comfortable to ride.
Your new shield looks very good and matches the appearance of the bike.

The air pocket is quieter and provides far better protection than the original HD shield. The bike with a Clearview Shield is smoother at all speeds and now I can comfortably ride all day while still being able to hear when I get home. A plus for me is I no longer have to wear earplugs and I can actually use the radio and communication system that came with the bike. I firmly believe your windshield is the best thing that happened to the ride and comfort of my 2015 CVO Road Glide. I highly recommend your windshields to all motorcycle riders.

I want to thank you for taking the time to allow your fellow motorcycle riders to participate in the testing and evaluation process which helped make made this a truly excellent American Made product.
